K Kavitha, BRS Leader Detained In Tihar Jail, Hospitalised At Delhi's DDU Hospital

K Kavitha, a key figure in the Delhi excise policy case, remains in Tihar jail and was recently hospitalized. Legal proceedings against her outline charges of corruption and money laundering.

BRS leader K Kavitha, currently in Tihar jail, was taken to Delhi's DDU Hospital on Tuesday evening. She is detained due to her involvement in the Delhi excise policy case.

K Kavitha, daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 15. Six days later, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was also arrested in connection with the same money laundering probe.

Delhi Excise Policy Case

In June, the CBI filed a supplementary charge sheet against Kavitha. They claimed there was enough evidence to prosecute her for corruption. She had been questioned by the CBI inside the jail about WhatsApp chats recovered from co-accused Buchi Babu's phone and a sum of ₹100 crore allegedly paid to the party.

K Kavitha is accused of being part of a group that allegedly gave AAP kickbacks amounting to ₹100 crore for formulating a favourable liquor policy. Manish Sisodia and Kejriwal are also in Tihar Jail for the same case.

Legal Proceedings

Earlier this month, K Kavitha approached a Delhi court seeking "default" bail in the corruption case. Her lawyer argued that the chargesheet against her was incomplete and that she had spent more time in jail than legally allowed without a complete chargesheet.

The plea stated, "It is amply clear that the third supplementary chargesheet has been filed with the sole purpose of obviating, scuttling and preventing the release of the applicant on default bail as also to circuitously violating the mandate of Section 309(2) of the Cr.P.C. Such inchoate and incomplete investigations aimed at violating the applicant's right of release on default bail cannot be countenanced in law."

The court has listed the matter for further hearing on July 22. The reasons behind her hospital visit remain unclear.
