Job Letters Handed To 1984 Riot Victims’ Kin In Delhi, Rekha Gupta Says ‘Justice Delayed But Delivered’
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday handed over job appointment letters to 19 individuals from families affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, as part of a larger initiative to provide employment to 125 people from riot-hit households. The event also saw the participation of Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who has long advocated for justice for the victims.
Speaking at the event, CM Gupta stated, "Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Delhi government has taken a step towards delivering justice by offering job letters to 125 individuals from families that suffered in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots."

Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa reiterated the government's resolve to support the families affected by one of India's darkest chapters. He praised the initiative as a means to bring dignity and opportunity to those who have long awaited redress.
This move builds on a similar initiative launched by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, who distributed job appointment letters to 47 survivors in November 2024.

The 1984 anti-Sikh riots erupted in the aftermath of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's assassination, leading to the deaths of thousands of Sikhs and inflicting deep and lasting trauma on their communities. The recent employment initiative by the Delhi government seeks not just to provide jobs but to offer a form of long-overdue justice and healing to those families.
In a further announcement, CM Gupta declared that the Delhi government will also begin issuing pensions to individuals who had resisted the Emergency, thereby extending its efforts to acknowledge and support those who have endured historical injustices.
