Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters, Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said the assertions made by Natarajan were factually wrong and that she was acting at the behest of her new 'political masters' who may have got evidence against her. Singhvi's target was understandably the BJP.
Singhvi said those politicians who are behind Natarajan's letter are also behind the timing of her letter's release. He said it was the BJP which had coined the 'Jayanthi Tax' earlier and not the Congress.
Singhvi mocked Natarajan saying she got four terms in the Parliament without fighting any election and that her remarks against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi was motivated.
He said the Congress is known for its pro-tribal and pro-environment practices and questioned that if Natarajan acted as per her party's policy, then what made her target Rahul Gandhi.
Natarajan perhaps wanted to follow the pro-rich, pro-corporate policy of the BJP, Singhvi said.
The Congress also questioned the release of Natarajan's letter just before the Delhi assembly election.
