Delhi poll: Will Jaya Prada take on Kejriwal from New Delhi constituency?
New Delhi, Jan 16: Will actor-turned-politician Jaya Prada contest the upcoming Delhi assembly poll against Aam Aadmi Party's Arvind Kejriwal on the BJP's ticket?
If reports are to be believed, the veteran actor-politician is likely to take on the former Delhi chief minister from New Delhi constituency. Kejriwal defeated his predecessor Sheila Dikshit of the Congress handsomely from this seat in December 2013.
Delhi poll: The Modi+Bedi factor might be too hot for Kejriwal
According to sources in the BJP, the party is banking on Jaya Prada's glamour quotient to win the New Delhi seat. Jaya Prada had contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Bijnor on the Rashtriya Lok Dal's (RLD) ticket. She had also served as a member of the Telugu Desam Party and the Samajwadi Party before joining the RLD.
On Thursday, Jaya Prada, a veteran of about 70 films in various languages, said she wanted to join the BJP as she was impressed with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership.
Her colleague and former SP leader Amar Singh was also talking to BJP leaders, she said.
Some other leaders of the BJP said former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, who joined the BJP on Thursday, should take on Kejriwal. Others want former AAP legislator Vinod Kumar Binny and Shazia Ilmi, both strong critics of the former Delhi CM, should contest against him.
