ISI looking to make a Kashmir out of Punjab, warns IB
New Delhi, Sept 17: Intelligence Bureau officials have warned that ahead of the Punjab elections, the ISI is likely to rake up the Khalistan issue in a bid to create violence in the state which is gearing up for elections.
The ISI has been nurturing the militants from Punjab who had fled following a crack down several years back.

IB officials say that attempts are on to create a similar kind of unrest in Punjab as was seen in the case of Jammu and Kashmir. Officials are coordinating with their counterparts in Canada where camps are being allegedly run.
The alert further states that Pakistan has directed several sympathisers of the Khalistan movement to start sending in the funds. Intercepts picked up also suggest that a major unrest is being planned in Punjab to disrupt the elections.
The Punjab police have been asked to enhance security across the state. In the view of heightened activity expected, the borders too are being heavily guarded.
Punjab recently witnessed two major attacks at Gurdaspur and Pathankot. These attacks showed that the state was still vulnerable to terror strikes.
