Inside Delhi CM Kejriwal's Tihar Jail Routine: A Glimpse

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail on charges related to a money laundering case associated with the now-defunct excise policy, is reportedly passing his days in contemplation and self-reflection. Sources reveal that Kejriwal, who was remanded to judicial custody by a court, starts his mornings early, engaging in activities such as sweeping his cell and practicing yoga.

According to reports from The Print, Kejriwal's routine includes a modest breakfast of two slices of bread and tea, followed by a stroll around his confinement area. His cell, equipped with a television, lacks a chair or stool, prompting him to stand while watching TV. At times, he sits on his bed, observing his surroundings or immersing himself in reading.

Kejriwal s Tihar Jail Diary

Sources within the prison describe Kejriwal as appearing "dazed" and "a little confused," indicating his ongoing adjustment to the unfamiliar prison environment. Despite this, the 55-year-old chief minister is said to be in good health, with his weight, blood pressure, and sugar levels monitored regularly by senior resident doctors.

Although Kejriwal is permitted outdoor walks, security protocols prevent him from interacting with other inmates. Consequently, the area around him is cleared whenever he steps out. His cell, situated in general ward number 3 of jail number 2 in Tihar, measures 14x8 feet.

Kejriwal's time in jail has not deterred his intellectual pursuits. Among the books provided to him are the Hindu epics Ramayana and Mahabharata, along with 'How Prime Ministers Decide.' Sources indicate that he often spends his day engrossed in reading and occasionally writing while seated on a chair in his cell.

Furthermore, Kejriwal is provided with standard cleaning equipment, including a broom, a bucket, and a piece of cloth, as per jail regulations.

Kejriwal's detention in Tihar Jail marks a significant moment, as he becomes the first sitting chief minister to be lodged in Asia's largest prison. His incarceration is part of a broader political context, with the Aam Aadmi Party and Delhi minister Atishi alleging that he has lost 4.5 kg since his arrest on March 21. Despite these challenges, Kejriwal appears to be maintaining his composure, focusing on his well-being and intellectual pursuits during his time behind bars.
