In one of its kind, Delhi Assembly adjourned to mourn for Karunanidhi
New Delhi, Aug 8: Breaking its usual norms, the Delhi Assembly was adjourned for the day today as a mark of respect to former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi. There is no precedent of adjourning the House over the demise of a former chief minister of other state.
Before the adjournment of the House proceedings, all members paid homage to the DMK chief by observing a two-minute silence. Members also paid homage to four Army personnel who were martyred in Jammu and Kashmir yesterday.
As the House proceedings began on the third day of the Monsoon Session, Speaker Ram Niwas Goel expressed condolence over the deaths of Karunanidhi and four Army personnel. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Opposition Leader Vijender Gupta said the country will always remember the DMK chief. The 94-year-old Karunanidhi breathed his last on Tuesday (Aug 7).
