New Delhi, Aug 12: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed DDA and DJB to provide it with details of current water supply to Dwarka.

A bench of justices Badar Durrez Ahmed and Sanjeev Sachdeva also sought details from Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on the status of 16 borewells that were being earlier used to provide water to the sub-city.

The bench sought the status of the borewells after DDA told it that these had been abandoned after water from Munak started reaching the Dwarka water treatment plant (WTP) and the command tanks there.

The court asked both the authorities to also indicate the amount of water that was still being supplied through tankers and the extent of water being supplied to Dwarka on account of functioning of the WTP there and listed the matter for further hearing on September 2.

The court further asked whether the subcity was getting the entire amount of water, about 32 million gallons per day (MGD), that was being supplied to Dwarka WTP.

The orders came on two PILs by Delhi EPDP CGHS and Dwarka Forum which have sought directions to the authorities, including DJB, to provide more water to the area.

Today, the petitioners told the court that even now they have to call water tankers to meet their requirements and also alleged that there was a lot of wastage of water.

DDA, meanwhile, told the court that DJB was not permitting it to install a water meter in one of the command tanks.

The allegation was denied by DJB, which also told the court that the water situation in the subcity has improved as it gets 15 MGD of water compared to the earlier 2.5 MGD.

It also said the situation would improve further once it completely takes over the entire area.
