Has Delhi’s Tughlaq Lane Been Renamed Vivekananda Marg? BJP MPs Update Government Bungalow Addresses
Following the BJP's return to power in Delhi after 27 years, the push to rename various locations in the city has gained momentum. The latest controversy involves Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Sharma, who has altered the address on his official residence's nameplate.
The nameplate at his bungalow, which originally read 6 Tughlaq Lane, has now been changed to 6 Vivekanand Marg, with Tughlaq Lane still appearing in smaller text at the bottom. Sharma isn't the only one making changes Union Minister Krishan Pal Gurjar has also modified his address. The nameplate outside his official residence now reads 8 Vivekanand Marg.

New Nameplate Reads 'Swami Vivekananda Marg
Dinesh Sharma, the former Deputy Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and now a Rajya Sabha MP, recently moved into his government-allotted residence at 6 Tughlaq Lane with his family. On March 6, he performed a housewarming ceremony, sharing pictures of the event on social media.
One of the images clearly displays the modified nameplate, which prominently reads Swami Vivekananda Marg while still including Tughlaq Lane in a much smaller font.

Posting the pictures on X, Sharma wrote, Today, I performed a religious ceremony and moved into my new residence at Swami Vivekananda Marg (Tughlaq Lane) in New Delhi with my family.
"This change has fueled speculation over whether Tughlaq Lane is officially being renamed or if it's a personal choice by BJP leaders. While no formal announcement has been made, the move aligns with the party's broader efforts to replace historical names linked to Delhi's past with those honoring Indian icons.
