Great Initiative! Delhi Traffic Police Joins Hands With DCPs In National Capital Region To Curb Pollution

In an effort to curb vehicle pollution, the Delhi Traffic Police has initiated a joint task force under the guidance of Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora. This initiative is part of the fourth phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). The task force, established on November 30, includes traffic DCPs from six districts in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, alongside seven DCPs from Delhi Traffic Police.

The task force aims to intercept vehicles banned under GRAP 4 before they enter Delhi. To achieve this, banners and joint pickets are set up at borders. The police are actively issuing challans (fines) and attaching petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years. This coordinated effort marks the first time such a rule has been implemented for effective enforcement.

Joint Task Force Coordination

An Additional Police Commissioner from Delhi Traffic Police has been appointed as a nodal officer within this joint task force. This role is crucial for ensuring seamless coordination among the involved districts. The collaboration extends beyond Delhi's borders to include neighbouring states, enhancing the overall effectiveness of pollution control measures.

To facilitate communication among officers, a dedicated WhatsApp group has been created. This group includes traffic inspectors from both Delhi and nearby states who are stationed at border checkpoints. Officers share photos related to border checks in this group, while senior officials provide guidance on various issues.

Implementation Strategy

The strategy involves setting up banners and joint pickets at strategic locations along state borders. These measures help in identifying and stopping vehicles that violate GRAP 4 regulations before they reach Delhi. By doing so, authorities aim to reduce vehicular emissions significantly within the city limits.

This initiative underscores the importance of inter-state cooperation in tackling pollution effectively. By working together, Delhi and its neighbouring states can address vehicular pollution more comprehensively, benefiting residents across regions.
