‘Focus on Pollution, Not Politics’: Arvind Kejriwal Hits Out After Delhi Assembly Summons Over ‘Hanging House’

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday hit out at the BJP after being summoned by the Delhi Legislative Assembly in connection with the "Hanging House" matter, alleging that the move is an attempt to divert attention from pressing civic issues in the capital.

In a strongly worded message, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief said Delhi is currently battling severe pollution, broken roads, overflowing garbage and shortages of medicines in hospitals. "Instead of addressing these real issues affecting people, they are summoning me over the 'Hanging House'," he said, questioning the priorities of the ruling establishment.

Kejriwal confirmed that he will appear before the Assembly on March 6 as directed. He also stated that he has written to the Privileges Committee, formally informing them of his attendance. However, he coupled that assurance with a demand for transparency, urging the committee to live-stream the proceedings so that the public can see what transpires.

AAP leaders framed the summons as political vendetta, alleging that the BJP is using institutional mechanisms to target opposition voices rather than focusing on governance. Party sources said the people of Delhi are more concerned about air quality, infrastructure failures and healthcare shortages than political confrontation.

By agreeing to attend while simultaneously calling for live telecast of the hearing, Kejriwal sought to position himself as cooperative but combative. "If there are questions, let them be asked in front of the people," he said, adding that transparency would expose whether the issue is genuine accountability or political theatre.

The March 6 appearance is now set to become another flashpoint in the ongoing tussle between AAP and the BJP in the national capital, with both sides preparing to escalate their political messaging.
