Family Of Five Returning From Vaishno Devi Killed In Car Fire On Delhi-Mumbai Expressway In Alwar

A heartbreaking incident took place late Wednesday night when five members of a family lost their lives after their taxi caught fire on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

The victims were returning home after visiting the famous Vaishno Devi Temple when the accident occurred in Rajasthan's Alwar district.

What Happened on the Expressway

According to police officials, the incident occurred late at night on the busy Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. The taxi, in which the family was travelling, suddenly caught fire while on the road.

By the time emergency teams reached the spot, the vehicle was already engulfed in flames. Unfortunately, all five passengers inside the car were found dead. Authorities believe the fire spread quickly, leaving the victims with no chance to escape.

A patrol team from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) alerted the fire brigade, which then rushed to control the blaze.

Victims Identified

Police have identified four of the five victims:

• Santosh Kumar (35)
• His wife Shashi (33)
• His mother-in-law Parvati (50)
• His daughter Ragni (13)

The fifth victim, also a woman, has not yet been identified.

The family belonged to Sheopur in Madhya Pradesh and had hired the taxi for their religious trip.

Driver Escapes, Condition Serious

The driver of the taxi, Vinod Kumar Mehar, managed to jump out of the burning vehicle in time. However, he suffered injuries and was first taken to the district hospital in Alwar.

Due to the seriousness of his condition, doctors later referred him to a hospital in Jaipur for further treatment.

Rescue Efforts and Investigation

After the fire was brought under control, the bodies were recovered and sent to the mortuary at the district hospital in Alwar for post-mortem examination.

Police officer Neki Ram confirmed that an investigation has been started to find out the exact cause of the fire. Officials are trying to determine whether it was due to a technical fault, fuel leakage, or any other reason.

What was meant to be a spiritual journey turned into a devastating tragedy for the family. The incident has raised concerns about vehicle safety and emergency response on highways.
