Environment Minister Warns Delhi’s AQI Will Remain Severe With No Immediate Relief

Delhi is unlikely to witness any major relief from hazardous air pollution levels in the near future, Environment Minister Majinder Singh Sirsa said on Wednesday.

While acknowledging the persistent challenge, the government has reiterated its focus on containing the situation through ongoing measures.

AQI Levels Remain a Major Concern

Addressing a press conference, Sirsa highlighted that air quality conditions have remained alarming for an extended period. Officials pointed out that the Air Quality Index had crossed the 400 mark during the closing days of the previous year, a trend that has continued into the current winter season.

The severe AQI levels underline the scale of the environmental challenge faced by the national capital, particularly during colder months when pollution tends to intensify.

Government Focused on Controlling the Situation

Despite the grim outlook, the minister said efforts are underway to prevent further deterioration. "Delhi is not expecting much improvement in the AQI, but we are aiming to control this situation," Sirsa said.

Authorities continue to monitor air quality data closely while coordinating steps aimed at limiting pollution sources and mitigating health risks for residents.

Winter Pollution Remains a Recurring Challenge

Officials acknowledged that winter has consistently posed difficulties for air quality management in Delhi. Similar patterns have been observed in previous years, with high pollution levels persisting for weeks despite interventions.

The government has indicated that pollution control remains a priority, even as immediate improvement appears unlikely.
