Tamil Nadu SSLC Results 2026: Can This Year’s Class 10 Pass Percentage Surpass Previous Records?

The Tamil Nadu SSLC (Class 10) board examinations for 2026, which commenced on 11 March, concluded on 6 April. Held in a single shift from 10:00 AM to 1:15 PM, students were given an additional 15 minutes to read the question papers.

A total of 9,09,002 candidates appeared for the exams this year. This includes 8,82,806 students from 12,467 schools, 25,801 private candidates, and 395 prison candidates. The School Education Department had set up 4,219 examination centres across the state. Special provisions were made for 12,292 differently-abled students, who were provided with scribes and other necessary assistance. Over 45,000 teachers were deployed for exam duties, while more than 4,800 flying squads were appointed to prevent malpractices.

A Look at the Last Three Years' Performance

In 2023, out of 9,14,320 candidates, the overall pass percentage stood at 91.39%, with girls outperforming boys at 95.2% against 93.3%. Perambalur district topped with 95.40%, followed by Sivagangai at 94.53%.

In 2024, the state recorded a pass percentage of 91.55%. Of the 8,94,264 students who appeared, 8,18,743 cleared the exam. Girls achieved 94.53%, while boys managed 88.58%. Ariyalur emerged as the best-performing district, with Sivagangai and Ramanathapuram taking second and third spots.

The 2025 exams saw 9,13,036 candidates appear, with 8,17,261 passing. Girls again led with a pass rate of 95.88%, compared to 91.74% for boys-a 4.14% gap. Sivagangai topped the district rankings with 98.31%, followed by Virudhunagar (97.45%), Thoothukudi (96.76%), Kanniyakumari (96.66%), and Trichy (96.61%).

Why the Change in Exam Schedule?

Traditionally held in April, the 2026 exams were advanced to March-April due to the state assembly elections scheduled for April-May. The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has confirmed that the SSLC results are expected to be announced on 20 May 2026. Students and parents are advised to keep a check on the official board website for updates.
