Delhi Excise Case: ED Gets 5-Day Custody Of AAP Leader Sanjay Singh

The Rouse Avenue court on Thursday granted five-day custody of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh to the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

This comes a day after the AAP leader was arrested by the ED over an alleged money laundering case in the excise policy case.

"False and baseless allegations, we are not scared, we will fight back", Singh said after the court order.

At the trial, the ED asked the court for ten-day custody of Singh to confront the AAP MP with the digital evidence against him in the case.

Singh's legal representative contested the ED's remand request and stated that asking for a 10-day detention period is unreasonable for someone not implicated in the issue.

Prior to his court appearance, Sanjay Singh claimed that his detention was an unfair act by Modiji and it would result in his electoral defeat.

The ED, in its chargesheet, had accused Singh of being instrumental in the creation and execution of the now-discarded excise policy. They asserted that this policy had benefited numerous alcohol manufacturers, distributors, and sellers.

The chargesheet filed in May against the former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia, alleged that Dinesh Arora, a restaurant owner, had a very close relationship with both Singh and Sisodia.

As per ED, it was through Singh that Arora was introduced to Sisodia at a party hosted in his restaurant. The agency alleges that Sanjay Singh reached out to Arora, asking him for donations from other restaurateurs for the 2020 Delhi Assembly election funding.
