EC asks parties not to make tall claims while drafting manifestos

New Delhi, Feb 24: Political parties are going all out to woo the voters ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections. Be if massive political rallies or freebies being distributed or promises claiming a better future for the people, they do it all.

However the Election Commission (EC) has cracked its whip on the parties and issued them guidelines asking them not to make 'tall promises' to the people.

The EC has cautioned them against distributing freebies because this could influence the people and also shake the root of conducting free and fair elections.

The EC said that even in their manifestos, political parties must reflect the rationale of the promises made. "Trust of the voters must be sought only on those promises which are possible to fulfill," it said.
