Domestic help abuse: Delhi govt to fast-track case
New Delhi, Oct 1: Taking a strong note of alleged abuse of a 15-year-old domestic help by her woman employer, Delhi government on Tuesday said the case would be heard by a fast track court to ensure that she gets justice.
Calling the incident "horrible, barbaric," Minister of Women and Child Development department Kiran Walia said the government would bear the medical expenses of the victim, who was rescued last evening from her employer's house in Vasant Kunj and admitted to hospital with knife injuries.
Walia, who visited the Jharkhand girl at a city hospital this morning, said a fast-track court would handle the trial of the employers of the badly injured domestic help.
"The woman in question has been arrested," Walia said. "She (domestic help) has various kinds of marks on her body and doctor would be able to tell whether these are dog bites or not. But apparently, somebody knifed her also," she said.
Walia assured that the girl's medical care will be taken care of. "The government will bear the expenses, but at the same time it is horrible, barbaric.
The badly battered and scared girl was rescued from her employer's residence.
Obviously, something has happened, she has that knife mark on her head," she said. A joint team of Delhi police and an NGO had rescued the badly battered and scared girl from ground floor of her emmployer Vandana Dheer's residence last evening.
The girl was taken to Safdarjung hospital for medical check up and after the doctor's report, a case was registered against Dheer at 12:30 AM.
Dheer, who works with a private firm, was arrested this morning.
The victim had reportedly told police she had been working with her employers for the past one year and they used to beat her up almost every day, apparently not happy with her work.
