Dhol, Mehendi, And Zero Commitment: Inside India’s Viral Fake Wedding Craze
A new party trend is taking over Delhi NCR's social scene in 2025-"fake wedding" parties. These shaadi-themed events offer all the glamour and celebration of a traditional Indian wedding, minus the actual marriage. With Gen Z driving the trend, these gatherings have become a hit across major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Pune.
Unlike real weddings, there's no dulha or dulhan. Instead, guests turn up in their finest ethnic attire to participate in a curated celebration that includes everything from mock varmala exchanges, dhol processions, and sangeet performances, to mehendi stations, photo booths, and pretend priests conducting symbolic rituals.

Most of these events are ticketed, with entry prices ranging from ₹500 to ₹3,000. Tickets are sold on platforms like BookMyShow, and the parties are hosted at popular venues including rooftop lounges, five-star hotels, and boutique restaurants.
The appeal is simple: guests enjoy the fun and pageantry of an Indian wedding without the emotional or financial stress. There are no family pressures, no religious obligations, and no logistical chaos-just food, music, dancing, and vibrant décor. Social media is fueling the trend, with attendees posting reels under hashtags like #ShaadiForTheVibe and #FakeShaadiParty.
Event organizers say demand has surged in 2025, with some agencies offering customizable "wedding party" packages for corporate groups, college students, and influencers.
"People love dressing up, dancing, and being part of the wedding experience without the real-life responsibilities," said one Delhi-based planner. "It's festive, it's fun, and it's perfect for content."
With its rising popularity and viral appeal, the fake wedding party might just evolve into a sustainable business model, offering India's beloved wedding culture in a new-age, commitment-free format.
