Delhi Weather Update: Heavy Rain Expected In NCR, IMD Issues Alert
Delhi Weather Update: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall across several states, including Rajasthan, Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir. The forecast also indicates that Delhi will experience cloudy skies for the coming week with chances of light rain.
Monsoon rains have led to flood-like conditions in numerous regions. States such as Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Sikkim, Manipur, Tripura, Uttarakhand, Karnataka (notably Shivamogga), Bengal, and Gujarat are affected. Himachal Pradesh is particularly hard-hit by flash floods and landslides. Tragically, 105 individuals have died due to rain-related incidents.

Warnings for Landslides and Cloudbursts
Authorities have cautioned about potential cloudbursts and landslides in mountainous areas. Rivers are expected to swell due to monsoon rains in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand. Additionally, heavy rainfall is anticipated in West Bengal, Assam, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya within the next day.
Rainfall patterns vary significantly across India. According to IMD data from June 1 to July 16 this year, the country received 331.9 mm of rain-9% more than the usual 304.2 mm for this period. Some states like Jharkhand and Rajasthan have experienced much higher rainfall than normal.
Rajasthan and Jharkhand's Rainfall Surge
Jharkhand recorded a remarkable 71% increase in rainfall with a total of 595.8 mm compared to its average of 348.9 mm. Similarly, Rajasthan saw a significant rise with 271.9 mm of rain so far against its normal of 125.6 mm-116% more than usual.
In contrast to these states experiencing surplus rainfall, many northeastern and southern regions are facing severe deficits. This disparity highlights the uneven distribution of monsoon rains across the country.
