Delhi Weather Report: Heavy Rain In Several Areas Of Delhi, IMD Issues Orange Alert
Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) experienced heavy rainfall on Saturday evening, with more expected soon. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) anticipates that the monsoon will finally arrive today. Although the official announcement is pending, forecasts predict heavy rain with thunderstorms and strong winds.
An orange alert has been issued for Southeast and Southwest Delhi, while a yellow alert remains for other areas. Key locations expecting significant rainfall include Indira Gandhi International Airport, Rajiv Chowk, ITO, India Gate, Lajpat Nagar, Hauzkhas, Safdarjung, and NCR regions like Noida, Gurugram, and Faridabad.

Monsoon Delays and Weather Patterns
Residents of Delhi have been enduring hot and humid conditions due to the delayed monsoon. An anti-cyclonic circulation in the mid and upper atmosphere over Delhi has hindered the northward movement of the monsoon trough. This system acts as a barrier to moisture-laden winds.
The long-period average (LPA) date for monsoon arrival in Delhi is June 27. Last year, it arrived on June 28. In previous years, it reached on June 25 in 2023, June 30 in 2022, and as late as July 13 in 2021.
Weather Alerts and Expected Rainfall
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Southeast and Southwest Delhi due to expected heavy showers. A yellow alert is still active for other parts of the city. Rainfall is anticipated at key locations such as Indira Gandhi International Airport and various NCR areas.
Footage from IGI airport shows rain already affecting the area. Residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates as conditions may change rapidly.
