Delhi Weather Alert: IMD Issues 5-Day Orange Alert; Forecasts Heavy Rain And Thunderstorms Today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a cloudy sky with heavy rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds with speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour for Delhi today. The national capital is under an orange alert for the next five days.

The minimum temperature today is expected to settle at 26 degrees Celsius, with the maximum temperature hovering around 30 degrees Celsius.

Delhi and other parts of North India were enduring a severe heatwave, with the capital recording nine heatwave days in June so far. This was a stark contrast to June of the previous two years, 2023 and 2022, which saw no heatwave days.

However, the city's weather has recently undergone a significant change due to the effect of a western disturbance. This meteorological phenomenon has resulted in a drop in the maximum temperature, bringing some respite from the scorching heat.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Gurugram and Faridabad, while Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar are under yellow alert.
