Delhi Water Crisis: Water Rationing To Be Practiced In Some Parts Of Delhi, DJB Minister Says

The recent water crisis in Delhi has led to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to start rationing water supplies, wherein some parts of Delhi which received water twice a day, will only receive water once a day, said AAP Minister Atishi Marlena Singh in a press conference.

In the conference on 28 May, she addressed the people of Delhi that over the past week, there has been a severe water crisis plaguing Delhi and that many measures have been taken to combat this situation.

Water Rationing In Some Parts Of Delhi

Areas with borewells were made to pump water for 14 hours straight as opposed to the regular six to seven hours in a day, the minister said. The new water rationing strategy is part of this initiative to combat the current situation.

The water saved from this initiative will go to areas where either no water is being supplied, or areas where water is only being supplied for 15-20 minutes in a day.

The minister acknowledged that this cut in water supply to many regions will cause a lot of inconveniences, but requested citizens of Delhi to remain patient and make the best out of the current situation.

Yesterday, the Delhi Jal Board X account made a post regarding the water production levels, and showed that the water treatment plants were producing 978.05 million gallons. A note stated that they were not able to produce and treat more water due to reduced supply of water from the river Yamuna.

Earlier this week, Minister Atishi Marlena Singh also blamed the BJP for the lack of water supply from the Yamuna river, claiming that its a conspiracy by the party alongside the Haryana government to sabotage Delhi's water supply and cause trouble for the union territory.

The Delhi Jal Board also recently released a press note, stating that some parts of Delhi won't be receiving any water between 10:00 AM, 29 May, till 10:00 AM, 30 May. This is "due to shifting of 200mm dia air valves on 1500mm dia twin raw water main feeding to Dwarka WTP near Karala-Kanjhawala Road by NHAI", said the note.

The following areas are affected by this:

Dwarka Sub City, Mahavir Enclave, Vijay Enclave, Uttam Nagar Group of Colonies, Pochan Pur, Bharthal , Amberahi village, Madhu Vihar , Sagar Pur, Kailash Puri, Durga Park, Mangla Puri, Raj Nagar Phase I & II, Bagdola village, Bijwasan, Dhulsiras, Binda Pur, Sewak Park, Bharat Vihar, Sita Puri , Raja Puri, Jiwan Park, Indra Park Milapnagar and Chanakya Place and adjoining areas.
