Delhi Prepares For Largest-Ever Chhath Puja 2025 With 17 Modern Ghats Along Yamuna

Delhi is set to host its grandest Chhath Puja yet in 2025, with special arrangements at over 1,300 ghats across the city. Notably, 17 newly constructed model ghats along the Yamuna river will allow devotees to perform rituals after a 7-8 year hiatus, marking a significant revival of tradition.

Key Arrangements for Chhath Puja 2025

Over 1,300 Ghats and 17 Yamuna Ghats: The city has set up more than 1,300 artificial ghats across neighborhoods and 17 modern ghats along the Yamuna, stretching up to 1.5 km from Palla to Kalindi Kunj. Each sub-division will have at least one model ghat, providing devotees greater accessibility and convenience.

Comprehensive Facilities: Ghats are equipped with tents, electricity, potable water, mobile toilets, and sanitation teams. Authorities are emphasizing cleanliness, security, traffic management, and accessibility to ensure smooth celebrations.

Special Water and Safety Measures: To provide clean water at the ghats, the Delhi government, in coordination with Haryana, has increased the water flow from Hathni Kund Barrage. Additionally, chemicals are sprayed from boats near Kalindi Kunj to reduce river foam and improve water quality. Combined with recent rainfall, these measures have significantly reduced pollution levels in the river compared to previous years.

Cultural Events and Community Participation: Over 200 cultural programs in Bhojpuri and Maithili are planned to promote Purvanchali culture, while community leaders actively participate in cleanliness drives across all ghats.

Special Provisions for Devotees: Free snacks, water, mobile medical units, fire brigades, and ambulance services will be available. Major ghats will feature flower showers and grand welcome gates to enhance the festive experience.

Ease of Worship: A single-window clearance system will speed up permissions for organizing Chhath events, and legal cases against devotees from previous years have been withdrawn to encourage wider participation.

Significance and Leadership: This year marks the first Chhath Puja under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta's administration, which fulfilled its promise to restore puja rights along the Yamuna, overturning a previous ban. Officials describe the arrangements as unprecedented, aiming to provide a safe, clean, and culturally immersive experience for devotees.
