Delhi Polls: Two layers of security in place prior to vote counting

Security beefed up ahead of counting
New Delhi, Dec 7: Security in the capital has been beefed up keeping in mind the counting of assembly poll votes. Two layers of security covers have been put into place at the 14 centers where the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have been kept.

According to officials who were on election duty, EVMs were immediately shifted to strong rooms at 14 counting centers after the elections. Security has been deployed 24X7 with Central Paramilitary Force guards guarding the surroundings.

"Two layers of security covers have been deployed for the safety of EVMs at all centers. As many as 20 companies of paramilitary force form the inner circle of security while Delhi police are ensuring their safety from outside," said Special Chief Electoral Officer Shurbir Singh.

CCTV cameras have been installed and only authorised officials are given access to enter the counting centers. To ensure proper transparency a live-watch will be kept by senior election official through web casting.

The counting of votes begins on December 8 at 8 am.
