Delhi Polls: Kejriwal Slams BJP, Doubles Down On Freebies For Voters
As the Delhi Assembly elections 2025 get closer, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has doubled down on his party's welfare promises, targeting voters in the national capital on Thursday.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Delhi's Madipur constituency, Kejriwal criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) while reiterating AAP's commitment to free utilities, student benefits, and new incentives for Delhi's tenants.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming, "If the BJP comes to power, they will cut your electricity and send you hefty bills."

Kejriwal assured voters that the AAP would continue its welfare initiatives, including free travel in buses for students and a 50% discount on Delhi Metro fares. For the first time, Kejriwal also promised benefits for tenants living in Delhi. He said, "If the AAP wins the Delhi Assembly Election 2025, tenants will also get free water and electricity."
Highlighting the financial relief provided by his government, Kejriwal said, "We are saving ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 every month on your electricity bills. If you have two kids studying in private schools, you are saving a minimum of ₹10,000. Additionally, we are saving ₹5,000 every month on medical expenses through clinics and ₹2,500 on bus fares."
The campaign event was held in support of AAP candidate Rakhi Birla, who is contesting from the Madipur constituency.
Kejriwal's announcements came as the AAP ramped up its campaign for the Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for February 5, with results to be declared on February 8. Seeking a third consecutive term, the AAP has centered its campaign around its welfare initiatives, highlighting free utilities and improved public services as its core strengths.
Earlier, the AAP had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding a 50% rebate for students on Delhi Metro fares. This announcement by Kejriwal came just hours before the BJP released its manifesto for the city's assembly elections.
As the political battle heats up, Kejriwal's promises of freebies and discounts aim to secure the support of voters by emphasizing AAP's track record of delivering on welfare and public service.
