Delhi Police Busts Interstate Illegal Arms Smuggling Cartel

Delhi Police have dismantled an interstate illegal arms smuggling network in the Delhi-NCR region, arresting three key members. The operation was conducted by Inspectors Rahul Kumar and Vineet Kumar Tewatia, under ACP Kailash Singh Bisht's guidance. The cartel, operating from Nabha Jail in Punjab's Patiala, supplied illegal arms from Madhya Pradesh and Bihar to Delhi and NCR.

Earlier this month, Delhi Police had also uncovered a gang of thieves targeting commuters at Metro stations, buses, and crowded markets. These stolen devices were then smuggled to neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Nepal. The Cyber Cell, Crime Branch, played a crucial role in busting this international syndicate of mobile phone thieves.

Illegal Arms Operation

The three arrested individuals have been identified as Aniket, Sourav, and Anand Kumar. During the operation, five "effective illegal" pistols were seized from their possession. This successful crackdown highlights the ongoing efforts to curb illegal arms trafficking in the region.

In another significant operation, Delhi Police's Cyber Cell apprehended a West Bengal-based smuggler named Abdush. He was caught at Salimgarh Bypass in Kotwali while attempting to flee to West Bengal with 48 high-end stolen mobile phones valued at approximately Rs 20 lakh.

Mobile Phone Theft Syndicate

DCP Crime Aditya Gautam stated that investigations revealed multiple syndicates specialising in large-scale smuggling of stolen mobile phones from Delhi/NCR to Bangladesh and Nepal. To combat this issue, the Cyber Cell launched an intensive operation focusing on theft-prone areas like Metro stations and crowded markets.

A dedicated team was deployed to gather intelligence on these syndicates. Their efforts led to the identification and dismantling of several groups involved in these criminal activities. This proactive approach aims to protect commuters from theft and reduce cross-border smuggling.
