Delhi-NCR Weather Update Today

The Regional Meteorological Centre of New Delhi predicts drizzle towards the evening of February 3, while moderate to shallow fog is expected to prevail in the city till February 6.

The IMD informs through a microblogging site X, formerly known as Twitter that thunderstorms, accompanied by light to moderate rain would occur over and adjoining areas of Delhi, including Narela, Bawana, Alipur, Burari, Rohini, Karawal Nagar and NCR including Loni Dehat, Hindon AF Station, Bahadurgarh, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Noida, Gurugram, Manesar.

This unexpected rainfall is due to the influence of two western disturbances, the IMD said on Wednesday. "One patch is moving across Delhi and is currently giving light to moderate rainfall at a few places, accompanied by moderate to intense thunderstorms and lightning and gusty winds. Another patch is moving from Rohtak and Jhajjar (Haryana) towards Delhi, this may give another spell of light to moderate rainfall at a few places accompanied by moderate to intense thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds," it said.

In addition to this, the IMD forecasted that Northwest India is expected to see normal to above-normal rainfall in February despite witnessing drier-than-usual December and January. Northwest India recorded 3.1 mm of rainfall in January, the second lowest since 1901, as per the IMD data.

Meanwhile, monthly rainfall over the country as a whole in February is also most likely to be above normal (more than 119 per cent) this year.
