Delhi Metro Seat Dispute Goes Viral: Tensions Rise Over Etiquette, Equality On Crowded Blue Line | WATCH

Disputes over seating have become a frequent problem on the Delhi Metro, primarily due to overcrowding and a lack of manners among passengers.

The metro's priority seating, designated for elderly people, pregnant women, and those with disabilities, is often disregarded, resulting in clashes.

Recently, a video emerged showing a heated row between a man and a group of women on a packed Delhi Metro train on the Blue Line near Janakpuri West.

The man, sitting with a rucksack and earphones, declined to surrender his seat to a woman, igniting a debate.

The footage, recorded by a female passenger, captures the tense confrontation between the man and onlookers on the Delhi Metro.

When encouraged to "be the bigger person" and relinquish his seat, the man replied with sarcasm, leading the woman at the heart of the dispute to taunt him. Despite repeated pleas, he refused to move, only standing when his stop approached.

Take a Poll

Online opinions have been split regarding the man's choice to stay seated. Some believe he ought to have offered his seat to the woman standing in the carriage, while others see no fault in his decision, asserting he had an equal claim to the seat.

One user wrote, "If it's not a ladies' seat, why should he get up? Equality works both ways."

Another remarked, "First they need an entire women's coach in metro train, then they want particular seats that are marked in each coach, when nothing works play the sympathy card and vacate seats of young men."

A third said, "Basic decency is to give up a seat for someone who needs it more, be it a woman or an elderly person."

A fourth added, "When he is seated in an unreserved seat, it's totally up to him to give his seat to others. Giving a seat merely because the person is a woman doesn't justify anything. Giving seats to disabled or senior citizens is still justified."

This episode is far from unique, as the Delhi Metro has seen numerous similar squabbles over seats before. In one notable case, a woman forcibly sat on a man's lap after failing to secure a seat, drawing widespread criticism.

Other examples of seating conflicts include a viral clip of two female passengers scrapping over a seat, tugging at each other's hair as bystanders tried to step in.
