Delhi Metro Magenta Line Hit by Signalling Failure, Trains Delayed During Rush Hour

Commuters on the Delhi Metro faced major disruption on Wednesday evening after a signalling failure slowed down services on the Magenta Line, leading to long delays during peak hours.

Passengers reported crowded platforms, halted trains and confusion across multiple stations as services were affected on the stretch between Kalkaji Mandir Metro Station and Botanical Garden Metro Station.

Trains Halted, Passengers Left Waiting

Several commuters said trains remained stationary for extended periods, with some reporting delays of over 30 minutes. Passengers were left stranded both inside coaches and on platforms, with limited clarity on when normal services would resume.

"I've been stuck at Shaheen Bagh station for almost 10 minutes. There may be a major fault in the gate system," one commuter posted on social media.

Another user flagged delays of 15-20 minutes during peak hours, questioning the lack of timely updates.

DMRC Confirms Signalling Issue

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) acknowledged the disruption, stating that train services were delayed due to a signalling issue on the affected stretch.

"Delay in train services on Magenta Line between Kalkaji Mandir and Botanical Garden metro stations due to a signalling issue. Normal services on all other lines," the DMRC said in an official update.

Frustration Mounts During Rush Hour

Commuters expressed frustration online as delays coincided with the evening rush, intensifying crowding at stations. Some questioned the frequency of disruptions, while others highlighted the inconvenience caused by lack of real-time information.

"What the heck is wrong with Magenta Line?" one commuter wrote.

Reports also indicated that multiple engineers were deployed onboard a train on the affected stretch to identify and resolve the technical fault.

Other Lines Unaffected

Despite the disruption, DMRC clarified that services on all other metro corridors were operating normally, limiting the impact to the Magenta Line section.

While efforts were underway to restore normal operations, the incident once again highlighted the challenges faced by daily commuters during technical glitches on one of the capital's busiest transit networks.
