Delhi Mayor Elections 2025: BJP To Get Walkover As AAP Announces Not To Field Candidate
MCD Mayor Elections 2025: A piece of good news arrived for BJP on Monday morning after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced not to field a candidate for the upcoming Delhi Mayor Elections 2025. The announcement means BJP will get a walkover in the Mayor Elections and form a triple-engine government in the national capital.
Notably, today is the last day to file Delhi Mayor election candidate nominations and elections are slated for April 25.

But it looks like there will be no need for elections as MCD ruling AAP has announced to opt out of the race. As per sources, reason behind AAP's decision not to contest Delhi Mayor election 2025 is internal rift in party. Many MCD councillors who won elections on AAP's ticket have switched sides and joined BJP.
AAP now lacks the numbers required to win MCD Mayor elections, where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with support of AAP rebels, now holds a majority in house.
With this, the BJP will get a full control of national capital it has a government at Centre, at state level and now, in MCD too.
Experts suggested that if AAP had gone under polling, then some more councillors might have done cross-voting in favour of BJP.
In the MCD elections 2022, AAP dethroned BJP by winning 134 seats out of 250. While BJP had won 104 seats. 9 seats were bagged by Congress. At that time, Shaily Oberoi was elected as AAP's Delhi Mayor, followed by Mahesh Khichi, who had won by only 3 votes.
But now, AAP has lost a majority in the MCD house.
