Delhi Issues COVID-19 Advisory As Cases Rise In NCR: Genome Sequencing, Hospital Prep Underway
The Delhi government has issued a precautionary advisory following a spike in COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region (NCR), with new infections confirmed in Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad.
Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh announced on Friday that 23 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in the city. Officials are currently determining whether the affected individuals are Delhi residents or have recent travel histories.

In light of the rising numbers, the Delhi health department has urged all hospitals to prepare for a potential surge. Hospitals have been instructed to ensure adequate availability of beds, oxygen supplies, critical medications, and vaccines. Moreover, COVID-positive samples are being sent to Lok Nayak Hospital for genome sequencing to identify any new variants promptly. The Delhi government emphasized the need for continued vigilance and readiness.
The advisory follows new case reports in surrounding NCR cities. In Ghaziabad, four people have tested positive for the virus. One patient has been hospitalized, while three others are under home isolation. Local health officials are closely observing the situation.
In Haryana, three COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Gurugram and Faridabad. Gurugram has reported two cases: a 31-year-old woman recently returned from Mumbai and a 62-year-old man with no travel history. Both patients are isolating at home. Contact tracing is underway, and their families have been advised to self-isolate as a preventive measure.
In Faridabad, a 28-year-old security guard from Sehtpur in the Palla area tested positive after visiting Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital with symptoms of fever, cough, and cold. Genome sequencing of his throat swab sample has been requested to determine the strain involved. "The patient and his family are currently in good health," confirmed Dr. Rambhagat from the Faridabad health department.
Dr. JP Rajliwal of the Gurugram health department stated that both Gurugram patients are under medical supervision and have been advised to remain isolated from their families.
At the national level, the Union Health Ministry remains vigilant. Both the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) are actively monitoring respiratory viral illnesses, including COVID-19. Authorities reassured the public that robust response systems are in place to manage any emerging outbreaks.
As the situation unfolds, citizens are urged to follow COVID-appropriate behavior, remain alert to symptoms, and seek medical care when needed.
