Delhi Govt Offices To Be Closed On Voting Day; Public Holiday Declared For Delhi Polls
The Delhi government has announced a public holiday on February 5, 2025, for the Assembly Elections. This applies to all government offices, local bodies, and public sector undertakings in Delhi. The holiday ensures that employees who are registered voters can participate in the election process.
Security measures have been significantly heightened ahead of the elections. Over 150 paramilitary companies and more than 30,000 police officers will be stationed across Delhi. Special CP (Crime) Devesh Chandra Srivastava shared these details with the media, emphasising the commitment to free and fair elections.

Security Preparations Intensified
Delhi Police have identified nearly 3,000 polling booths as sensitive. Drones will monitor some of these locations to ensure safety. Additional police forces and Quick Reaction Teams (QRT) will be deployed at sensitive booths to maintain peace and order during the elections.
An inter-state coordination meeting was held in January to discuss security arrangements. Chaired by Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, it included senior officers from neighbouring states like Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh. The focus was on anti-terror measures and border checks.
Seizures and Arrests Ahead of Polls
Delhi Police have intensified their crackdown on illegal activities leading up to the elections. They have seized over 1 lakh litres of liquor and arrested more than 1,300 individuals under various legal provisions. Additionally, they confiscated drugs worth over Rs 77.9 crore.
Since January 7, when the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) came into effect, over 1,000 cases of alleged violations have been registered. More than 33,000 people were arrested under different laws during this period. The police also seized illegal firearms and ammunition.
