Delhi Elections: BJP's Kapil Mishra Slams AIMIM's Decision To Field Riot Accused Tahir Hussain
The Delhi chapter of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has voiced strong objections against the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) party's choice to nominate Tahir Hussain, a former Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) councillor, for the Mustafabad Assembly seat in the forthcoming Delhi elections.
Currently under judicial custody for his alleged involvement in the 2020 NorthEast Delhi riots, Hussain's candidacy has sparked controversy, highlighting concerns about the potential for divisive politics in the electoral process.

BJP Vice President of Delhi, Kapil Mishra, expressed his disapproval on the social media platform X, critiquing the AIMIM for selecting Hussain, who is implicated in several cases related to the riots and the murder of an Intelligence Bureau officer.
Mishra's statement reflects a deep concern for the safety and unity of the Hindu community in Delhi. "Tahir Hussain, who had plotted the murder of hundreds of Hindus in Delhi, in whose house bombs, stones, and slingshots were kept to kill Hindus, and who killed IB officer Ankit Sharma by stabbing him 400 times and throwing his body in the drain, is now being fielded in the election. An attempt is being made to challenge the Hindus of Delhi by fielding such Jihadis. If any attempt is made to start riots in Delhi again, your seven generations will bear the consequences," Mishra emphasized in his post.
The decision to run Hussain as a candidate was publicly announced by AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi. Owaisi's announcement came through a post on X, revealing that Hussain had joined AIMIM and would represent the party in the Mustafabad constituency.
"MCD Councillor Tahir Hussain joined @aimim_national & will be our candidate from Mustafabad Assembly Constituency in the upcoming Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections. His family members and supporters met with me today and joined the party," Owaisi stated. This move by the AIMIM has been interpreted by critics like Mishra as a direct provocation and an attempt to leverage contentious figures for political gain, further deepening the divide within the community.
Given his current judicial custody, Hussain is expected to campaign for the election from behind bars, adding another layer of complexity to an already contentious candidacy. This situation raises questions about the implications of fielding candidates with pending legal issues, particularly those accused of inciting violence and division within communities. The BJP's condemnation of Hussain's nomination underscores the party's stance against what it perceives as the AIMIM's strategy to stir communal tensions and disrupt the peace in Delhi.
