Delhi Elections 2025: AIMIM Gives Ticket To 2020 Riots Accused Tahir Hussain From Mustafabad

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-Ul Muslimeen (AIMIM) on Tuesday announced ex-AAP councillor Tahir Hussain as its candidate from the Mustafad Assembly constituency for the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Hussain's candidature was announced by AIMIM president and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi.

"MCD Councillor Tahir Hussain joined AIMIM and will be our candidate from Mustafabad Assembly constituency in the upcoming Delhi Vidhan Sabha elections. His family members and supporters met with me today and joined the party," Owaisi said in a post on X.

The announcement came after the meeting between Owaisi and Tahir Hussain. His wife Shama and son Shadab were also present at the meeting along with AIMIM leader Imtiyaz Jaleel.

Notably, Tahir Hussain was identified as a key accused in the 2020 Delhi riots. He was previously elected as a municipal councilor from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) but was expelled from the party following the riots.

However, Tahir received a major reprieve from the Delhi High Court when it quashed an FIR filed against him in connection with the riots.

The Mustafabad constituency is one of the 10-odd seats that the AIMIM plans to contest in the Delhi elections. The entry of the AIMIM in the Delhi election fray could significantly alter the political landscape in the capita, particularly in the Muslim-majority areas.

Meanwhile, the AAP is fully preparing for the elections as it has already releases two list of candidates. The party has denied tickets to 16 sitting MLAs. So far, 31 names have been announced.
