Delhi Elections 2025: AAP, BJP, And Congress Strategies For Slum Voters

The upcoming Delhi elections on February 5 are set to showcase a competitive battle among the AAP, BJP, and Congress, with the AAP aiming for a third consecutive win amidst corruption charges. The electoral fight sees Arvind Kejriwal of AAP defending his New Delhi seat against BJP's Parvesh Verma. This election is crucial for slum dwellers, who form a significant portion of the vote bank and traditionally back the AAP. Both the BJP and AAP are intensively courting this demographic, each employing unique strategies to secure their votes.

In a strategic move to connect with slum residents, the AAP has initiated groups within these communities, comprising 8-10 individuals, including educated and influential members led by a designated 'slum chief.' This approach aims to directly counteract the BJP's influence. The BJP, not to be outdone, has launched 'Jhuggi Pravas' programs, bringing in leaders from both its Delhi and national units to appeal to the slum dwellers, with the AAP responding with a dedicated Purvanchali voter focus, overseen by Sanjay Singh.

The BJP has targeted AAP's strongholds, notably where Arvind Kejriwal has shown historical strength. In Kejriwal's constituency, the BJP's candidate, Parvesh Verma, is making concerted efforts to sway voters in slum areas. Similarly, in Jangpura, Tarvinder Singh Marwah of the BJP, who defected from Congress, is challenging AAP's former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Marwah's candidacy represents a significant threat to AAP, prompting the party to bolster its campaign efforts in slum clusters where it has historically performed well.

Efforts to Woo Women Voters

A key component of AAP's strategy is to appeal to women voters, particularly those living in slums, by warning them of the BJP's alleged plans to demolish their homes. They're promoting the financial benefits of AAP's welfare schemes, dubbed 'Kejriwal's maths of savings,' to underscore the party's commitment to protecting their interests. This tailored messaging seeks to solidify women's support in these critical areas.

Sandeep Pathak, AAP General Secretary (Organisation), is spearheading the party's campaign efforts, leveraging data-driven strategies coupled with emotional appeal to resonate with voters. Regular updates and reports are being analyzed to fine-tune their campaign tactics, highlighting the party's proactive approach in engaging its base and countering opposition narratives.

The BJP's intensive outreach in slum areas has intensified the competition, putting AAP on the defensive in territories where it has previously enjoyed strong support. This dynamic underscores the crucial role of slum dwellers in the upcoming election, with both major parties vying for their support through targeted campaigns and promises aimed at addressing their specific concerns and needs.
