Delhi Drenched: Over 100mm Rainfall Recorded In Several Areas Overnight, Yellow Alert Issued
Delhi experienced extreme rainfall overnight, with multiple weather stations recording over 100mm of rain by Thursday morning, following light to moderate showers that persisted through the night.
The heavy rainfall began on Wednesday evening due to a convergence of thunderclouds over the National Capital Region (NCR), leading to waterlogging across the city and disrupting air traffic.

The initial downpour was extremely intense, exceeding 50mm per hour, before tapering off after 8:30 pm. Rain continued in most parts of Delhi until about 2:30 am, after which the clouds began to clear.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts scattered drizzles and light rain for the rest of the day, with a yellow alert in place.
IMD data collected from 8:30 am on Wednesday to 5:30 am on Thursday indicated heavy rainfall at several stations. Safdarjung, the representative station for Delhi's weather, recorded 107.6mm of rain, while other areas like Mayur Vihar and Najafgarh reported 147.5mm and 112.5mm, respectively.
The rainfall was particularly intense between 5:30 pm and 8:30 pm on Wednesday, with 79.2mm recorded in just three hours.
The IMD classifies rainfall of 64.4mm or more in 24 hours as 'heavy.'
In this case, the highest intensity was noted in the early hours, nearly reaching the threshold of a 'cloudburst' in Mayur Vihar, which saw 89.5mm of rain between 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm.
The Delhi Traffic Police issued advisories, cautioning commuters to avoid Rohtak Road due to severe waterlogging and potholes.
