Delhi Crime: 3 Delivery Boys Beat A Businessman To Death In Connaught Place; CCTV Video Shows Crime
A night out in central Delhi ended in tragedy for 36-year-old businessman Shivam Gupta, who died on January 19 after spending more than two weeks battling for life following a brutal assault in Connaught Place. Police say Gupta was attacked on the night of January 3 by three food delivery riders during an altercation near a party venue, suffering severe head injuries that ultimately proved fatal.
According to investigators, the attackers allegedly turned their helmets into weapons, striking Gupta repeatedly and leaving him seriously injured on the pavement in one of the capital's busiest commercial areas. A police patrol was alerted after a call about an unconscious man lying on the road. Officers rushed Gupta to hospital, where doctors confirmed extensive head trauma and internal injuries. He never regained full consciousness, making it difficult for police to immediately establish what triggered the confrontation.

CCTV footage from surrounding shops and buildings has become central to the investigation. Police have arrested two of the accused delivery riders, while efforts are underway to trace the third suspect, who remains at large. Authorities say technical surveillance and forensic evidence, including Gupta's blood-stained clothes and medical reports, are being used to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Gupta's family has described the period after the assault as a painful wait filled with uncertainty. His father, Anil Kant Gupta, said Shivam had left their Laxmi Nagar home on January 2 after mentioning he would attend a party. When repeated phone calls went unanswered the following night, the family grew anxious, only to later receive a call from police informing them that Shivam had been hospitalised.
Doctors shifted Gupta to another hospital on January 4 and performed surgery the next day. For a while, the family clung to hope as he showed faint responses to voices, despite warnings that his condition was critical. That hope ended on January 19, when complications from the head injuries led to his death.
Police say the case will be pursued rigorously, with evidence from CCTV cameras, forensic analysis and witness statements expected to strengthen the charges. For Gupta's family, the loss has been devastating. They have appealed for strict punishment for those responsible, saying justice is the only way to ensure such violence does not shatter another family in the same way.
