Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Honours Workers, Unveils New Welfare and Skill Schemes

On the occasion of International Labour Day, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta extended greetings to workers and honoured them at a special "Shramik Samman Samaroh". The event recognised the contribution of workers, often called "karmayogis", who play a key role in building the city.

The programme highlighted the government's commitment to improving the lives of labourers through welfare schemes, safety measures, and skill development.

Support for Workers and Their Families

As part of the event, the government distributed safety kits to 1,000 construction workers. These kits are meant to improve workplace safety and reduce the risk of accidents.

In addition, education kits were given to 100 children from labour families. This step aims to support the education of workers' children and encourage them to pursue better opportunities in the future.

Skill Development for Better Opportunities

A major highlight of the event was the launch of a large-scale skill development initiative. The programme aims to train around 35,000 workers every year.

Through this initiative, workers will be able to learn new skills, improve their job prospects, and increase their income. It is also expected to help them adapt to changing work demands in different industries.

Focus on Labour Welfare

The government said that labour welfare remains a key priority, inspired by the vision of Narendra Modi. The focus is on ensuring dignity, security, and equal opportunities for workers.

New Schemes Announced

Several new measures were also announced to support construction workers:

• A complete waiver of registration and renewal fees for construction workers
• Introduction of a Samuhik Vivah Yojana to support mass marriages for labour families
• Plans to set up modern Labour Chowks and Shramik Seva Kendras

These steps are aimed at making essential services more accessible and reducing financial burden on workers.

The proposed Labour Chowks and Shramik Seva Kendras will act as centres where workers can access important services easily. These include registration, welfare schemes, and other support systems.

The idea is to bring services closer to workers so that they do not have to struggle to access government benefits.
