Delhi CM Race: Will National Capital Get A Woman Chief Minister For 4th Time? Check BJP Probables

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, often surprises with unexpected choices for chief ministerial positions. This trend has been seen in states like Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh. Political analysts now speculate that Delhi might witness a similar surprise, possibly with a woman candidate being chosen for the top post.

In the recent Delhi Assembly elections, four BJP women candidates emerged victorious. Rekha Gupta, Shikha Roy, Poonam Sharma, and Neelam Pahelwan won their respective seats. Their victories ended the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) dominance in the national capital. This success has led to speculation that one of these women could be considered for the chief minister's role.

Delhi CM Race BJP Probables

Potential Women Candidates

Shikha Roy made headlines by defeating AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj in Greater Kailash by 3,188 votes. Rekha Gupta secured the Shalimar Bagh seat with a significant margin of 29,595 votes against AAP's Bandana Kumari. Poonam Sharma triumphed over Rajesh Gupta from Wazirpur by 11,425 votes. Neelam Pahelwan also achieved victory by defeating Tarun Kumar from Najafgarh by 29,009 votes.

While these women are potential candidates for the chief minister position, Parvesh Verma is currently leading the race. Verma gained prominence after defeating AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi by 4,089 votes. His political stature has risen significantly due to this victory.

Other Chief Minister Contenders

Several seasoned leaders are also vying for the chief minister's post within BJP circles. Ashish Sood and former state general secretary Pawan Sharma are among them. Sood won from Janakpuri with an 18,766-vote margin and has administrative experience from his time in South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Former Delhi BJP presidents Vijender Gupta and Satish Upadhyay are also serious contenders. Gupta achieved a hat-trick of wins from Rohini with a margin of 37,816 votes. Upadhyay is known for his close ties with RSS leadership and was previously vice-chairman of New Delhi Municipal Council.
