Delhi Assembly Polls: Election Commission Assures Probe Into AAP's 'Fake Voter' Claims

In a significant move ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, a delegation of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, led by the party's national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, met with Election Commission officials today to address concerns over alleged voter list manipulation, NDTV reported.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Kejriwal alleged that BJP MPs from the New Delhi assembly constituency had submitted applications to include 30 to 40 names each in the voter rolls. "We told the Election Commission how in the New Delhi assembly constituency, each BJP MP has given applications for 30 to 40 names to be included in the voter roll," Kejriwal said.

Delhi Assembly Polls Election Commission Assures Probe Into AAP s Fake Voter Concerns

The AAP has accused the BJP of transferring votes from across the country to the New Delhi constituency by using addresses of MPs and ministers residing in the area. These allegations come just weeks before Delhi goes to the polls on February 5, with results to be declared on February 8.

Kejriwal also raised concerns over a sudden spike in voter registrations in the New Delhi constituency, alleging fraudulent practices. "How could 13,000 new voters appear suddenly in such a short span of time?" he asked, referring to the 15-day period between December 15 and January 8. According to Kejriwal, many of these alleged new voters have been brought in from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and other neighboring states. "This manipulation undermines the election process," he added.

The Election Commission assured the AAP delegation that any fake voter entries would be thoroughly investigated. "There will be a deep inquiry about each vote and action, if needed, will be taken," Kejriwal quoted the poll panel as saying.

The BJP has strongly refuted Kejriwal's allegations, with party leaders condemning his remarks and accusing the AAP of politicizing the electoral process.

As election day approaches, the allegations of voter manipulation have added a new dimension to the fiercely contested Delhi elections, raising questions about transparency and fairness in the electoral process.
