Delhi Assembly Election 2025: Congress Names Star Campaigners, Kharge and Rahul Gandhi Among Top Names

Ahead of Delhi's forthcoming assembly elections, Congress has unveiled its list of high-profile campaigners, signaling a robust attempt to reclaim its influence in the region. This list is headlined by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, alongside prominent figures such as Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Their involvement underscores the party's strategic emphasis on leveraging their leading personalities to rally support for its candidates.

In the competitive fray, the Congress is not alone; it faces stiff opposition from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), each vying for dominance in the capital. Despite being part of the INDIA alliance, AAP and Congress have chosen to contest the elections separately, each launching attacks against the other and the BJP over various issues. This strategy marks a departure from the united front typically presented by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which has already named its candidates for 68 of the 70 assembly seats, showcasing its organizational unity and strategic planning.

Congress has bolstered its campaign efforts by enlisting a cadre of seasoned leaders and emerging voices as star campaigners. This diverse roster includes former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, KC Venugopal, Sachin Pilot, Bhupendra Baghel, Deepender Singh Hooda, and others, reflecting the party's intent to blend experience with new perspectives. Among these campaigners, Alka Lamba stands out, not only for her candidacy from the Kalkaji assembly constituency but also for her vocal criticism of both the AAP and the BJP.

Alka Lamba, in a recent statement, criticized the AAP and BJP for their continued disputes ahead of the elections, contrasting their approach with Congress's focus on developmental issues. Highlighting the challenges faced by the homeless as a result of government actions, Lamba's remarks resonate with the Congress's broader message of addressing the needs and concerns of Delhi's residents.

Delhi is scheduled to cast its votes on February 5, with the results anticipated on February 8. The elections come at a crucial time for Congress, which aims to reverse its fortunes following disappointing performances in the past two assembly polls.

During the last elections in 2020, the AAP emerged as the dominant party, securing 62 seats, while the BJP won eight, leaving Congress without a single seat. This outcome marked a significant shift from Congress's previous 15-year reign in Delhi, underscoring the changing dynamics of the city's political landscape.
