Delhi: Amidst infighting, Cong shortlists single names for 18 seats

Cong to announce candidates on Nov 8
New Delhi, Nov 8: After much deliberation, the Delhi Congress on Friday shortlisted single names for 18 seats, party sources said.

Party sources also said that the first list of candidates will be announced on after Nov 9.

The party's screening committee had to set up a panel of up to three names for the 27 seats but that proved to be quite a task for the panel.

The Congress' screening committee is likely to submit the shortlisted names to the Central Election Committee on November 9, which will be headed by party president Sonia Gandhi.

Party is likely to field many sitting MLAs in the elections

Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and state party chief JP Agarwal in the last week held meeting with the sitting legislators.

Reports suggest that the party is likely to field many sitting MLAs in the elections, thereby ruling out an opportunity for others to contest elections.

The party allegedly has been witnessing fights between candidates, with new candidates being denied tickets and already sitting MLAs being fielded again.
