Congress demands an explanation on Kamla Beniwal's sacking

New Delhi, Aug 7: A day after

was sacked as the Governor of

, a row has erupted with Congress leaders questioning the move.

The Congress has demanded an explanation from Narendra Modi's government on the sacking of Beniwal. Congress leader Manish Tewari said: "This is a violation of not only the Supreme Court judgement but also the Constitution. Home Minister has to explain why Kamla Beniwal was removed."

Congress leader Ajay Maken too tweeted saying

Congress leader Rajiv Shukla too said that there is a clear vendetta. First she was transferred and then sacked, he said.

Meanwhile the Government responded saying that there is no politics involved in sacking of Beniwal.

Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu said: "There are serious allegations against sacked Mizoram Governor Kamla Beniwal. "The act of sacking Mizoram Governor is Constitutional."

Beniwal was sacked on Wednesday night.
