‘CM Didi Will Keep Fighting’: Rekha Gupta Makes First Public Appearance After Attack

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta made her first public appearance on Friday after the recent attack on her, telling supporters she would not back down from her duties.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Association of Wholesale Readymade Garment Dealers in Gandhi Nagar Market, Shahdra, Gupta declared:
"I assure you that your CM Didi will not be afraid, will not get tired, will not lose. Till Delhi gets its rights, she will keep fighting with you. It is my vow to continuously fight with you."

During the event, Gupta announced that local MLA Arvinder Singh Lovely will serve as the new chairman of the Yamuna Paar Vikas Board. Praising him, she said, "He has held top posts in the Delhi government, but for the sake of development, without any hidden agenda, he joined the BJP. He is like the chief minister of Gandhi Nagar. Lovely will be the chairman of the Yamuna Paar Vikas Board."

The chief minister also asked Lovely and East Delhi MP and Union Minister Harsh Malhotra to prepare a budget proposal for the region's growth. "I am sanctioning the budget today. You just prepare the file with estimates," she said.

Focus on Transport and Infrastructure

Gupta revealed that the government will soon map out new routes for DTC buses, beginning with Trans Yamuna, to ensure all areas get sufficient services. She also promised to expand water pipelines, sewer lines, parking spaces, and toilets in East Delhi to address long-pending civic concerns.

Details of the Attack

On 20 August 2025, Gupta was attacked during a 'Jan Sunwai' at her camp office by Rajeshbhai Khimji, a 41-year-old resident of Rajkot. He was arrested, and a case under several charges, including attempt to murder, was registered. Since then, Gupta had been staying at her official residence in Civil Lines.

Upcoming Schedule

According to PTI, Gupta is scheduled to attend the grand finale of 'Ideathon'-an event organized by the state industries department-at the Ashok Hotel in Chanakyapuri at 4:00 PM today. She is also expected to return to her office at the Delhi Secretariat later in the day.

Yamunapar Development Plans

Highlighting her commitment to East Delhi, Gupta said: "A very large number of people live on this side of the Yamuna and are waiting for Mother Yamuna to be cleaned... Mother Yamuna will start appearing better and more beautiful with time." She assured residents that water pipelines, sewer networks, parking lots, and toilets will be developed wherever required.
