Chandra Grahan 2023 today: Lunar eclipse city-wise timings in India, watch eclipse on Budh Purnima
The first lunar eclipse of 2023 will occur on Friday, coinciding with Vaishakh Purnima, also known as Buddha Purnima in India. This eclipse will start at 8.44 pm and reach its peak at around 10. 52 pm and end at 1.01 am. It will last for 4 hours and 18 minutes.
The rare penumbral lunar eclipse will be visible from Asia, Australia, Africa, the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Ocean, and some parts of India.

About 56 per cent of the total population of the world will be able to see the entire eclipse.
What is a lunar eclipse?
According to NASA, a lunar eclipse happens when the Sun, Earth, and Moon align so that the Moon passes into Earth's shadow. In a total lunar eclipse, the entire Moon falls within the darkest part of Earth's shadow, called the umbra. When the Moon is within the umbra, it will turn a reddish hue. Lunar eclipses are sometimes called 'Blood Moons' because of this phenomenon.
On May 5, it is hard to get a glimpse of a penumbral lunar eclipse as it will be a relatively subtle astronomical event, as the Moon will only pass through the Earth's penumbral.
