BJP's Raja Iqbal Singh Defeats Congress In Delhi Mayor Race, Jai Bhagwan Yadav Named Deputy Mayor

Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh of the BJP defeated the Congress nominee handily in the Delhi Mayor Elections, marking a big victory. With 133 votes, Singh easily defeated the Congress candidate, who received only 8.

Another significant event strengthened the BJP's hold on the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) when Jai Bhagwan Yadav was chosen to serve as the city's next deputy mayor. The three civic entities-East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC), North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), and South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC)-were reunified on May 22, 2022, to become the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

Senior BJP leader Raja Iqbal Singh thanked the Delhi people for giving the BJP the task of handling the city's urgent problems. Further demonstrating the BJP's resolve to address issues with local administration, he promised that elections for the standing committees will be held promptly.

The BJP should now "rule Delhi without any excuses," according to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which chose to boycott the mayoral elections. This followed the brief tenure of the AAP as mayor, which ended in November 2024 when Mayor Mahesh Kumar Khinchi won the election by a mere three votes.

An important turning point in the city's governance was the consolidation of the three municipal corporations into a single MCD, which made it possible for the BJP to maintain its hold on Delhi's civic administration.
