Bhojpuri actor, singer Manoj Tiwari joins BJP

New Delhi, Oct 3: Popular Bhojpuri actor Manoj Tiwari formally joined the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday.

Tiwari was inducted in presence of Delhi election in-charge and former BJP national President Nitin Gadkari and Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel in Delhi.

Manoj Tiwari is likely to contest in the upcoming Assembly election in Delhi.

"I am very happy that a great artist and singer like Manoj Tiwari has joined BJP," Gadkari said.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP President Vijay Goel said, "Manoj Tiwari has a huge following and will prove to be a great asset to the BJP."

Tiwari is likely to contest in the upcoming Assembly election in Delhi and his joining to the BJP may fetch the support of 30 lakh odd Purvanchali voters.

In earlier this month Tiwari had said, "I did meet Delhi state president Vijay Goel at his home but it was just a courtesy call. I came to know that Mr Goel had waited for a chance to see me during one of my programmes in Dwarka."

In 2009, Tiwari contested the Lok Sabha election as a candidate for the Samajwadi Party from Gorakhpur, but he left the party in 2010, in support of Amar Singh, who was expelled from the party.

Over two-third Bihari and eastern Uttar Pradesh's people reside in Delhi, who are huge fans of Manoj Tiwari.

Tiwari also participated in the fifth season of popular reality show "Bigg Boss" in 2011.
