Baba Ramdev for Uma Bharti versus Sonia Gandhi fight in Rae Bareli

New Delhi, March 26: Yoga guru

on Wednesday pitched for BJP Vice President

's candidature against Congress President

from

constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

"Though the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded candidates in all constituencies, why has it not fielded a strong candidate from Rae Bareli," Ramdev asked at a press conference.

"A lot of people have told me that if the BJP does not field any powerful candidate, why don't I contest the election against Sonia Gandhi. But I have already taken a decision that I won't contest the polls," he said.

"If BJP really wants to defeat Sonia, Uma Bharti must be fielded", Ramdev told reporters.

Ramdev also claimed that he has been "forced to speak out" so that his message is reached to the BJP.

"We are ready to campaign door-to-door for Uma Bharti in Rae Bareli", he added.

The BJP has currently fielded her from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh.

While addressing her first rally in Jhansi on March 20, "Hindutva" leader Bharti said that she would take care of the entire Bundelkhand.

However, Uma Bharti, who is already a powerful figure in Madhya Pradesh, has told party leadership that she would like to contest from Bhopal.

Last month, Uma Bharti had asked Congress president Sonia Gandhi to clarify her party's stand on the "impotent" barb against BJP's PM nominee Narendra Modi by External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid.

Uma Bharti was expelled from BJP in 2005 but she returned to the party in 2011.
