Atishi’s Meteoric Rise: From Delhi Adviser To Chief Minister In Record Time
New Delhi: Atishi's remarkable ascent from a government adviser to the Chief Minister-designate of Delhi has been described as "phenomenal" and "meteoric." At 43, she is set to become only the third woman, after Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit, to lead the national capital, as reported by Hindustan Times.
Atishi was unanimously chosen as the Chief Minister-designate during a recent legislature party meeting. Expressing gratitude, she thanked Arvind Kejriwal, the outgoing Chief Minister, whom she regards as an elder brother. Atishi acknowledged the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for providing her, a first-time politician, with such a significant role.

From Delhi Adviser To Chief Minister - How Atishi Managed Everything?
With the Delhi Assembly elections looming, Atishi faces the challenge of overseeing key projects and policies. Her responsibilities include finalizing and fast-tracking initiatives like the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana and the Electric Vehicle 2.0 Policy, as per PTI reports.
Atishi's journey began as a founding member of AAP, where she played a crucial role in shaping the party's policies, notably as a member of the 2013 Manifesto Drafting Committee. Her background includes seven years in a Madhya Pradesh village, focusing on organic farming and progressive education, which reinforced her commitment to political change.
Though she joined AAP in 2013, Atishi remained largely in the background, working as an adviser on education policies. Her foray into electoral politics came in 2019 when she contested the Lok Sabha elections from East Delhi against BJP's Gautam Gambhir but faced defeat. Despite this setback, she continued to build her political career.
In 2020, Atishi was elected as an MLA from Kalkaji in the Delhi Assembly elections. She was appointed to the cabinet during a crisis, following the arrest of Manish Sisodia in the excise policy case and Satyendar Jain's resignation. Atishi's rise through the ranks saw her taking on multiple crucial portfolios, including finance, public works, and education.
Amid governance challenges, such as the Delhi water crisis and allegations against Kejriwal's aide, Atishi not only managed key responsibilities but also defended the government and the party vigorously. Her leadership was evident when she went on a hunger strike to secure Delhi's water share from Haryana, as reported by PTI.
Atishi's pivotal role extends beyond the Delhi government; she is an influential voice within AAP, embodying the party's principles on significant issues. Her leadership has been bolstered by her strong rapport with Kejriwal and Sisodia.
Known for her contributions to Delhi's education sector, Atishi has been instrumental in transforming government schools, introducing the Happiness Curriculum, and advocating for reforms in private school fee structures. Her achievements were recognized on an international stage when she addressed the United Nations General Assembly in 2022, showcasing Delhi as a global model for urban governance.
With a background in education and history from Delhi University and the University of Oxford, Atishi's academic and professional credentials have further solidified her position. Her parents, Vijay Singh and Tripta Wahi, were both professors at Delhi University, underscoring a legacy of academic excellence, as per media reports.
As Atishi prepares to assume her new role, her meteoric rise reflects her dedication, resilience, and significant contributions to Delhi's governance and development.
