New Delhi, Dec 28: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal takes oath as the youngest chief minister of Delhi on Saturday. Here are the live updates of the event.

8.35 pm: Kejriwal rubbishes Nitin Gadkari's allegation

Kejriwal refuted the allegations made by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari that a deal was brokered between the AAP and Congress by an industrialist. Kejriwal asked Gadkari, whom he had exposed once, to produce evidence.

7.45 pm: Kejriwal asks people of Delhi to wait till Monday

Chief Minister Kejriwal, while reiterating his party's poll promises of reducing the power tariff rates by half and providing 700 litres of free water daily to all houses, asked the people of Delhi to wait till Monday for some news.

5.45 pm: Request to make lone JD(U) MLA as Delhi assembly Speaker

The JD(U) asked the AAP-led government and the Opposition to make its only MLA Shoaib Iqbal, the seniormost legislator in the House, the Speaker of the state assembly.

5.30 pm:CII congratulates Kejriwal

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) congratulated Arvind Kejriwal for becoming Delhi's chief minister and expressed hope that his government will be an industry-friendly one, said an IANS report.

5.00 pm: Ex-supercop Kiran Bedi gives credit to Anna Hazare for Kejriwal's success

Bedi said Hazare's movement gave New Delhi a new chief minister and the Lokpal Bill.

4.40 pm: Anna Hazare congratulates Kejriwal

Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare congratulated Kejriwal after he became the chief minister.

3.47 pm: Manmohan Singh congratulates Kejriwal

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh called up Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and congratulated him today, after the latter was sworn in as the Delhi CM.

3.40 pm: Arvind Kejriwal to meet police commissioner BS Bassi

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said that he would meet the police Commissioner BS Bassi. "I will also meet officials from the power department, Delhi Jal Board, transport department," he said.

1.20pm : Arvind Kejriwal distributes portfolios in his Cabinet

Arvind Kejriwal handed over portfolios to his Ministers. Manish Sisodia to handle PWD, Urban Development and Education, Arvind Kejriwal to handle Power and Finance, Saurabh Bhardwaj to handle Transport, Rakhi Birla to handle Women and Child Welfare and Satyendra Jain to handle Health.

1.05 pm Kejriwal reaches Delhi Secretariat

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and his Cabinet reached the Delhi Secretariat immediately after the swearing in ceremony to take stock. Kejriwal is said to decide the portfolios at the Secretariat.

12.47 pm Kejriwal reaches Rajgath

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal reaches Rajgath to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. En route to Rajgath Kejriwal said: "I am a very small, ordinary person. This is the victory of the ordinary and powerful citizens," he said.

12.15 pm: Citizens of Delhi took an oath with me, says Kejriwal

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal addressing the crowd here said: "The oath taken right now was not taken by Arvind Kejriwal, but by the common people of Delhi. Today is the day when the common man has one. Our fight does not end here. I believe if all the people come together, we can collectively eradicate corruption from India."

"Remember, two and a half years back we began our fight here. We went on fast, protested against the corrupt. I told Annaji that if politics was a dirty mess, we had to get into this dirty mess to clean it up," he said.

He went on to say that he didn't have any magic wand with him but 'we are confident that if all people in Delhi come together we can solve problems together.'

"We shouldn't breed arrogance in our minds. AAP was created to break the arrogance of other parties. No party should be created to break our arrogance. We aren't here to hold any portfolios, we are here to serve the people. All of us have left our careers to be here," he says.

Praising Dr Harshvardhan, he said that he knew him and said that he was a good person. "I however would not like to comment about Dr Harshvardhan's party," he said.

"There is an incredible wave that has gripped our country. People have united for many issues," he said. "We need to work together. If someone asks you for a bribe, do agree to do it. Then we will provide you with a phone number, where you can call us and file a complaint so that we can catch the officer red handed," he said.

Kejriwal ended his speech with a song to boost the morale of his supporters.

AAP leaders Satyendra Jain, Rakhi Birla, Somnath Bharti, Girish Soni and Saurabh Bhardwaj take oath as ministers in Delhi government.

11.57 am: Arvind Kejriwal takes oath as the Delhi CM

The swearing in ceremony began with Arvind Kejriwal taking oath as the Delhi CM. On stage with him was Lt Governor, Najeeb Jung and other Cabinet ministers from the AAP. Arvind Kejriwal becomes the youngest Chief Minister in Delhi.

11.54 am: Swearing in ceremony to begin shortly

Arvind Kejriwal's swearing in ceremony to begin shortly. Kejriwal arrived at the Ram Lila Maidan along with other dignitaries. As many as 50,000 people were present at the venue.

11.40 am: Arvind Kejriwal arrives at Ram Lila Maidan

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal arrived at Ram Lila Maidan for the swearing in ceremony. He was greeted by thousands of supporters who had gathered at the venue. Before arriving at the venue, Kejriwal travelled via Metro train to reach the Venue.

11.34 am: Harshvardhan arrives at Ram Lila Maidan

Dr Harshvardhan, leader of Opposition in Delhi arrived at the Ram Lila Maidan, where AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal will be sworn in as the Delhi CM today.

Meanwhile BJP leader Rajnath Singh congratulated Arvind Kejriwal and said that he wished him the best ahead of his tenure as the CM of Delhi.

11.05 am: Arvind Kejriwal boards Metro from Kaushmbi

The Metro station at Kaushambi was flooded with AAP supporters as Arvind Kejriwal boarded the train to reach Ram Lila Maidan. Thousands of supporters gathered at the station and some even boarded the train with Kejriwal just to extend their support to him.

Even social networking sites were flooded with well wishers wishing him good luck.

10.35 am: Kejriwal leaves for Ram Lila Maidan

AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal left for the Ram Lila Maidan for the swearing in ceremony as the Chief Minister. Just minutes before leaving his house in Ghaziabad, Kejriwal said that this was the second fight for freedom. "Till the time we do not rid the country from corruption and injustice, the fight will not end. I will begin work immediately begin work after the swearing in ceremony," he said.

He also said that he will always need the blessings of Anna Hazare. Meanwhile Anna Hazare wrote to Kejriwal congratulating him ahead of his swearing in ceremony. " He and his party must serve the people," he said.

10.25 am: Security beefed up at the Kausambi Metro Station

Security was tightened at the metro station after Kejriwal decided to take the metro to Ramlila Maidan from here to take oath as the Delhi Chief Minister. Kejriwal along with Manish Sisodia and other AAP supporters will take the train from Kausambi Metro Station around 11 AM.

10.15 am: Kejriwal likely to handle power and finance departments

Arvind Kejriwal is likely to handle the departments of power and finance, said TV reports. Manish Sisodia, another AAP MLA, is likely to take charge of the education and public works departments.
